Since the year 2000, Pantone has been assigning us a Color Of The Year. Though the company has been around for over 50 years now, it’s still fun to see which color they’ll choose next to represent the year ahead of us. This year’s color is one of sheer joy and vibrancy. Living Coral is the perfect reminder to find the joy in our lives. And what better way to implement this color than in the decor of your home? Granted, you probably won’t want to make drastic, lasting changes to your home focused around this color as next year it will in fact be replaced by something else. The hue that is coral might not be your thing. Whether it is or isn’t, and whether you want to go all out or keep it to small doses, here are a few ways you can inject this fun and festive color into your life, brightening up your home in 2019.

Color Pop

Although the accent wall is seeing its way out in favor of a simple, single-color wall to provide the perfect backdrop for the growing rage that is more maximalist artwork (a harkening back to the neo-expressionism of the 70s), if you enjoy it, do it! As a brighter, more vibrant color Living Coral won’t need much wall space to make its mark. Geometric shapes are also in this year; in lieu of a plain accent wall, carefully tape a Chevron pattern onto a larger wall and add your color of the year in this classic pattern. Choose a patterned tile in this shade to add as a backsplash in your kitchen. If Living Coral is a color that speaks to your soul, put it in your house in one of these more permanent (but still easily changeable) ways.

Textiles

This is an arena that spans the whole house. Blankets and bedding, accent pillows for your couch, rugs for the living room or entryway, towels for the kitchen or bathroom; each of these items are perfect for a way to bring Living Coral into your home. If you’re due for an upgrade in any of these areas, donate your lightly used items to a shelter and then upgrade your style with a splash of coral color.

The Little Things

If you thought you had options in the last section, this category will put it to shame. Anything you can think of can be used to implement this color into your life. Picture frames are a great place to start. They can be hung on the wall or propped up on a coffee table. Coasters or books for that coffee table. A new lampshade for your floor light. Bathroom accessories from trash can and soap dispenser to shower curtain and wall decor. Napkins and placemats for your dining table and serving dishes for your family meals. Vases for flowers, or just flowers in the Living Coral shade itself are all perfect little ways to add this color to your daily routine. You can even take it a step further and finally make the jump to reusable by purchasing a water canteen and coffee thermos with the signature shade in its design to carry with you at all times (and save some paper, plastic, and some green in your pockets).

This beautiful color of elation reconnects us to nature and fine tunes our focus to joy and positivity. You can make it as permanent or temporary as you like. Whatever you decide, bringing 2019’s color into your home will add life and happiness to your surroundings.
